Sende film festival took place on 8th July, 2016 as a part of the program of #refugeeswelcome youth exchange.

We had the pleasure of showing two documentaries: “Voices of refugees” and “Taste of home” in the “Secret garden” of Sende, co-working and co-living space in a stone village in Galicia (Spain).

“Voices of Refugees” documentary aims at showing human faces of the current “migration crisis”. The film was shot on locations of Lesvos island, Greece, at the Croatia-Serbia border and in Brussels, Belgium. It is based on interviews with migrants sharing their stories, hopes and aspirations. It is a tool to raise awareness of the situation of migrants coming to Europe and to encourage discussions.

“Taste of home” — in the past 20 years thousands of migrants have lost their lives trying to reach Europe. Some of them found themselves in Croatia. How much do we understand them, how much do they understand us? Is food a language that we all speak and that might make us start accepting each other?

#refugeeswelcome brought together 25 young people from Hungary, Croatia, Italy, Spain and Portugal to discuss the importance of youth activism in the current refugee crisis in Europe. The participants are exploring the concept of human rights and creating ideas for action for promoting solidarity and raising awareness about the issues of refugees in Europe. The exchange is taking place from 5th-12th July in Sende with the support of Erasmus + program.
